On their first Christmas together 15 years ago, Jay gave Phae a book about log cabins and an axe! Ever since then they started to dream and scheme their move to the countryside where they wanted to live a utopian self-sufficient rural lifestyle. They settled in St Agnes 4 years ago where Phae has been inexhaustibly building a small holding from scratch. She is a complete grafter and has tried her hand at everything from keeping chickens and goats to growing veg and of particular interest to us at the Falmouth Food Co-op, cultivating wonderful mushrooms. The smallholding is entirely off-grid and she has built an ingenious mushroom fruiting room in the back of an old truck, all powered by solar.
